We are looking for an experienced and motivated Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery of our Wales & Western Stations and Buildings Work Contract for CP7 (2024–2029). This is a pivotal role on a framework that covers station buildings, canopies, platforms, depots, car parks and other key rail infrastructure assets.

Octavius is a leading UK civil engineering and transport infrastructure business, with over 700 employees delivering high-quality Rail and Highways projects across the country. We are proud of our people, our culture and our vision to be the UK's most respected provider of transport infrastructure. As a tier-one contractor, we deliver diverse and meaningful projects — from AFA schemes and new stations to link roads and bypasses — with a focus on safety, sustainability and community impact. As our business continues to grow, we are building commercial teams that will support our expanding pipeline of work — creating real opportunities for you to develop your career in a business investing for the long term.

In this role, you will take ownership of the commercial management of a portfolio of projects worth approximately £10 million annually, covering a range of maintenance and renewals activities across the Wales & Western region. You will:

  • Lead a talented team of Senior Quantity Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, Assistant QSs and Early Careers talent — typically an 8–9 person structure across direct and indirect reports.
  • Provide commercial governance, forecasting, risk management, and contractual oversight across a varied portfolio of fast-moving schemes.
  • Build strong working relationships with project teams, clients and supply chain partners — including managing challenging conversations when needed, helping to strengthen our reputation through professionalism and clarity.
  • Contribute to making this framework top-performing by driving commercial excellence, consistency and high-quality delivery.

You will typically spend one day a week in our Bristol office and one day in Swindon, with additional travel to sites across the region as required. Home working will vary depending on project needs, and you will have the autonomy to manage your diary in a way that supports both delivery and your wellbeing.

To make an immediate impact, you will already be an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor with NEC experience in a Rail environment. Knowledge of the Wales & Western region is an advantage. You will thrive here if you:

  • Take ownership and enjoy solving problems autonomously.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients and stakeholders, including navigating challenging conversations constructively.
  • Want to take on a new challenge in a fast-growing organisation — helping to shape a high-performing framework and contributing to winning future work through delivery excellence.
  • Are motivated by leading and developing others, empowering your team to deliver great outcomes.

We offer a competitive rewards package including a company car or car allowance, Private Healthcare, Pension, Life Assurance, and 25 days Annual Leave (plus a day off for your birthday). You will also benefit from hybrid working, enhanced Paternity & Maternity leave and the opportunity to continue your personal and professional development within a supportive team.

If you are an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor looking for a role with genuine influence, variety and long-term career potential, we would love to hear from you — apply now.

Inclusion and diversity are important to us, we are an equal opportunities employer and value difference. We want and will continue to build an inclusive environment where our people thrive. We firmly believe constantly striving to build a truly diverse workforce is what makes us a strong business and will enable us to continue to solve important problems and deliver unrivalled value to both our customers and clients. If you need any specialist support throughout your application, we will work with you where we can to support your journey with us.
