Are you an experienced and motivated purchasing professional with experience working in the transport infrastructure industry? Octavius are looking for a Senior Buyer to join the team to help deliver projects across the country. We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the existing Buying team for the procurement of Site Materials in a cost‑effective and timely manner.
  • Support the Procurement strategy with the procurement of materials from approved and capable suppliers.
  • Resolve supplier disputes and liaise with delivery teams as needed.
  • Transact orders on COINS with suppliers daily, maintaining good communication with site teams to ensure timely supply deliveries.
  • Liaise with Site teams and Suppliers to maintain good supplier performance and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Ensure supplies are sourced from approved suppliers at the right commercial pricing with high‑quality plant to meet our needs.
  • Resolve any supplier invoicing or performance issues promptly to improve payment performance or service delivery, raising any critical issues with the Head of Supply Chain.
  • Attend supplier meetings and/or site meetings as needed.
  • Maintain and grow knowledge of Materials supplies, product trends, and innovation to support our business needs.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience as a Senior Buyer in a civil engineering environment.
  • Degree or HNC/HND minimum in Civil Engineering and/or Purchasing or equivalent qualification/experience in a similar purchasing role.
  • CIPS qualified would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering and highways/rail sectors.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Proficiency in using IT, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to resolve supplier disputes and liaise with delivery teams efficiently.
  • Knowledge of people management (desirable).
  • Familiarity with the COINS IT system (desirable).
