At Octavius, we’re looking for a proactive, energetic Multi Skilled Operative to join our Rail Services team based out of Reigate. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing depots, stations, and buildings across the Sussex route area, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely for our clients and the public. Working Hours

This is a full‑time, site‑based role working Monday to Friday, with standard hours of 07:00 to 15:30. The role totals 42.5 hours per week onsite (excluding travel time to and from site).

Additional Requirements

Occasional requirements to work nights and weekends, depending on operational needs. Once fully trained, there will be an on‑call requirement every nine weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Day‑to‑day repairs and maintenance across various sites, including carpentry, brickwork, plastering, plumbing, and general building tasks.
  • Operating tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining accurate records of your work and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Delivering high‑quality work while adhering to health and safety policies.
  • Working flexibly, including night shifts, to meet project needs.

Team Collaboration

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, supervisors, and clients, building strong relationships and embodying the Octavius values in every interaction.

About You

You are physically fit, safety‑conscious, adaptable, and possess a ‘can‑do’ attitude with a professional approach. You enjoy working as part of a team but can also take initiative and work independently when needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on construction sites (essential).
  • Ability to follow instructions and prioritise safety.
  • Good communication skills and basic IT proficiency.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Interest in or working towards an industry‑recognised qualification (C&G, NVQ, CSCS, PTS, First Aid, PASMA, Level C, PIC/COSS preferred).
