Octavius Infrastructure is delighted to announce it has been appointed by Network Rail to the North-West and Central (NW&C) Capital Delivery Framework for Major Projects for Control Period 7. Octavius has secured a place on Lot A2, covering multi-discipline projects valued between £7 million and £50 million, encompassing building, civils and railway engineering. To support the projects on this framework, Octavius is looking for an experienced Senior Planner to join the team. One of these will include Cottam Parkway, a new station on the Blackpool to Preston line. This is a hybrid role, based at Network Rail's office at Manchester Piccadilly Station or Birmingham New Street, coupled with home working.
You will be working on:
- Developing, producing and updating programmes for multiple projects.
- Working with the estimators and delivery team to produce programmes that are commercially attractive to the client.
- Helping the team to identify and evaluate the risks within the project, not only with regards to planning, but the project as a whole.
- Ensuring that legislative, Octavius' and customers' mandatory policies and procedures are delivered appropriately within the governance framework.
- Developing relationships with other teams to ensure that we share resources, innovation, and process to deliver efficiently as one.
- Identifying better and/or more efficient ways of achieving the current outcomes.
- Putting safety, health and wellbeing at the heart of decision making.
- Putting the Environment and Sustainability at the heart of decision making.
- Actively participating in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events.

About you:
- Civil Engineering knowledge with relevant experience in suitable disciplines (Experience in Rail infrastructure to include Electrification is required).
- An excellent understanding in applying planning software to create clear, comprehensible and realistic programmes.
- The ability to plan from first principles.
- Knowledge of planning software (such as MS-Project, Asta Powerproject or P6 Primavera).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good level of NEC4 knowledge, and knowledge of how it should be applied to the contract programme.
- Understanding of construction design.
You will bring:
- A related degree, diploma, or vocational qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience in Civil Engineering.
- Completion of courses relevant to a career in planning.
- Previous experience working for a tier one contracting group operating in civil engineering.
