Octavius Finance is working with an established global asset management firm looking to hire an AI Engineer to work directly alongside its investment team.
This is an opportunity for a technically strong engineer with an established financial services background and a genuine passion for financial markets to work across AI, data analytics and quantitative engineering, developing solutions that directly support investment research and decision-making.
The role is embedded within the investment function, with approximately 80 to 90% of time spent working directly with investment analysts and researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and implement AI-driven tools to improve investment research and operational efficiency.
- Develop agentic AI solutions and LLM-based applications to automate research processes and streamline investment workflows.
- Work directly with investment professionals to identify challenges and build practical technical solutions.
- Build Python-based applications, data analytics tools and automated research systems.
- Develop tools to monitor financial markets, macroeconomic developments, news flow and investment-relevant information.
- Use AI and quantitative techniques to extract insights from large volumes of financial data and internal research.
- Take ownership of projects from initial discussions through to development and deployment.
- Collaborate with investment, quantitative research and technology teams internationally.
Requirements
Previous professional experience within financial services is essential. Candidates without a financial services background will not be considered.
- Strong software engineering background with excellent Python development skills.
- Practical experience developing AI applications, automation tools or agentic AI solutions.
- Experience working across data analytics, quantitative engineering or full-stack development.
- Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products and investment research processes.
- Genuine passion for financial markets, investment strategies and asset management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify opportunities to improve existing processes.
- Comfortable working directly with investment professionals and translating their requirements into technical solutions.
- Ability to take ownership of projects and deliver practical, production-ready applications.
Previous experience within asset management, hedge funds, investment banking or quantitative research would be particularly attractive.
Progress towards or completion of the CFA qualification would also be advantageous, given the close interaction with the investment function.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will join an established global investment manager where technology, data and quantitative research play an integral role in the investment process.
Unlike a traditional engineering position, this role offers significant exposure to investment professionals, providing the opportunity to understand how research is conducted, investment decisions are made and portfolios are managed.
The firm has a strong culture of internal development, with previous examples of individuals successfully transitioning from research support and technology functions into investment analyst positions.
For someone looking to build a career at the intersection of artificial intelligence, quantitative engineering and investing, this position offers an opportunity to remain technically hands-on while developing a deeper understanding of financial markets.
The firm is particularly interested in ambitious engineers who already understand the financial industry, are passionate about investing and are keen to demonstrate their capabilities within a highly analytical investment environment.
Please note: Relevant professional financial services experience is a strict requirement for this position. Applications without this experience will not be progressed.
