Salary: £50,960 + OT

Hours: Monday - Friday, 6am - 2.30pm

We are seeking a skilled and experienced HGV Technician to join our client’s workshop in Reading. Our client specialises in municipal and local authority fleet vehicles, including refuse collection vehicles, sweepers, and other specialist council fleet equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a range of heavy goods and municipal vehicles. This position requires a strong understanding of HGV mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex faults. The ideal candidate will have experience working on municipal or specialist fleet vehicles and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair vehicle problems, including engine, transmission, brake, suspension, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on municipal vehicles such as refuse collection trucks and street sweepers
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks in line with manufacturer and fleet schedules
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Keep accurate records of all work performed and parts used
  • Communicate with colleagues and management regarding vehicle issues and repair requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Keep up to date with the latest HGV and municipal vehicle technology and repair techniques

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience as an HGV Technician
  • Experience working on municipal or specialist fleet vehicles would be advantageous
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and software
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential)
