We are excited to be recruiting a highly motivated, detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Business Manager to support Octagon’s Motorsports client teams. Reporting into the Business Manager, this role sits at the heart of day‑to‑day finance operations for the account, working closely with the Motorsports Client Team and the UK Finance Director to help streamline processes, maintain strong financial control, and ensure accurate, timely reporting and decision‑making. Our ideal candidate is organised, commercially aware, confident working with stakeholders at different levels, and enjoys building structure and clarity in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll bring strong Excel capability, be studying towards a professional finance qualification, and take pride in delivering work that is accurate, responsive and consistently high quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure client invoices are raised and issued in a timely manner to support effective working capital management.
- Maintain oversight of billing status and support client teams to resolve billing requirements or queries quickly.
- Review and manage the parked payable invoice list, working with junior client team members to ensure invoices are processed correctly and promptly.
- Review and approve Motorsport‑related purchase orders, ensuring appropriate due diligence is completed (e.g., vendor agreements in place, budget available on jobs, correct coding and detail).
- Ensure all billable costs are captured and accounted for appropriately across jobs.
- Oversee all Motorsport WIP, working closely with the Finance Assistant to ensure jobs are reconciled accurately and closed promptly upon completion.
- Support job hygiene by helping teams keep financial tracking accurate, up to date and audit‑ready.
- Maintain responsibility for weekly and monthly client reconciliation reports, ensuring timely, accurate information is shared with client leads to inform decision‑making.
- Review debtor reports and follow up with client leads to resolve outstanding queries and support cash collection.
- Support the Senior Business Manager with month‑end revenue reconciliation queries and any compliance‑related requests for Motorsport clients.
- Ensure documentation, reporting and financial processes align with internal requirements and best practice.
- Partner with the Finance Assistant to respond to ad‑hoc client team requests and resolve issues efficiently.
- Proactively share ideas for process improvement to increase efficiency, clarity and consistency across team workflows.
Requirements
- Studying towards a professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Clear, confident communication skills across a range of stakeholder levels.
- Strong time management and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working collaboratively and autonomously, with a proactive mindset.
- A positive contributor to team culture and company initiatives.
Preferred, but not necessary
- Degree in accounting/finance or a related field.
- Experience using SAP.
- Experience working within a global business environment.
- Interest in, or passion for, Motorsports.
