Electrical CAD Engineer Team Leader
Location: Totton, Southampton
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm
Are you an experienced Electrical CAD Engineer with the skills to lead a design team and maintain high technical standards? This is an opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day running of an electrical CAD function, combining hands-on design knowledge with team leadership.
Working closely with project management, production and commercial teams, you'll coordinate workloads, oversee drawing quality and ensure electrical design documentation is delivered accurately and on schedule.
The role
As an Electrical CAD Engineer Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:

Leading and coordinating the electrical CAD team, allocating workloads and monitoring progress against project deadlines.

Producing, reviewing and checking electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, general arrangement drawings and panel layouts.

Ensuring bills of materials, manufacturing drawings and associated technical documentation are accurate and up to date.

Managing drawing revisions, design changes and document control.

Working with project management, production and commercial teams to resolve technical queries and support project delivery.

Carrying out design reviews and quality checks to ensure drawings meet customer requirements and relevant engineering standards.

Coaching and mentoring team members, supporting their technical development and improving team performance.

Identifying opportunities to improve design processes, drawing standards and overall efficiency.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who combines strong electrical design expertise with the ability to coordinate and support a team.
You'll ideally have:

Experience in electrical CAD design within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

Previous experience leading, supervising or coordinating an engineering design team.

Strong knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, general arrangement drawings and panel layouts.

Experience using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar electrical CAD software.

An understanding of drawing revisions, document control and engineering design standards.

The ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks and deliver work to agreed deadlines.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, production and project management teams.
Experience with low-voltage switchgear, control panels, electrical distribution or monitoring systems would be advantageous.
