A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Electronics Engineer based in Sedgefield to join an innovative engineering business developing advanced RF, microwave and electronic solutions for demanding applications across telecommunications, defence, aerospace and space.

This Senior Electronics Engineer job offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from electronic design and system integration through to prototype development, testing, validation and volume manufacture. This Senior Electronics Engineer job is ideal for someone with strong experience designing analogue and digital electronic systems at component level within a manufacturing, telecommunications, defence, aerospace, RF, or similar engineering environment. The successful candidate will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-performance and reliable products while ensuring designs meet performance, quality, cost and manufacturing requirements.

Senior Electronics Engineer Job Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analogue and digital electronic circuits, including mixed-signal systems.

  • Develop signal conditioning circuits, filters, amplifiers and power supply modules.

  • Design digital systems incorporating microprocessors, ADCs, DACs and associated logic.

  • Produce detailed technical specifications and support component selection.

  • Create and capture electronic schematics and define PCB design requirements.

  • Work with PCB design tools, ideally including Altium Designer.

  • Develop and integrate electronic systems from initial concept through prototype, testing and volume manufacture.

  • Work with interfaces including PCIe, USB, Ethernet, CAN bus, I²C and SPI.

  • Perform system-level integration, verification and validation testing.

  • Troubleshoot hardware, communication and system-level issues and identify root causes.

  • Prepare test specifications, technical reports and reliability assessments.

  • Participate in and lead engineering design reviews to identify and mitigate technical risks.

  • Work closely with RF, software, firmware and other multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Support product introduction, fault diagnosis and manufacturing activities.

  • Manage component obsolescence and identify suitable alternative components.

  • Support thermal analysis, MTBF calculations and tolerance analysis.

  • Ensure electronic designs meet performance, cost, quality and manufacturability requirements.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of new electronic technologies.

Senior Electronics Engineer Job Requirements

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification/experience in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Previous experience in a Senior Electronics Engineer, Electronics Design Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Electronics Development Engineer or similar position.

  • Strong experience in analogue and digital circuit design at component level.

  • Experience designing mixed-signal electronic systems.

  • Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB design.

  • Experience using PCB design software such as Altium Designer or similar.

  • Good understanding of electronic circuit design, signal conditioning, amplifiers, filters and power supplies.

  • Experience working with microprocessors, ADCs, DACs and digital logic.

  • Hands-on experience with electronic testing, troubleshooting and fault finding.

  • Experience using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers and/or logic analysers.

  • Good understanding of EMC/EMI design and testing principles.

  • Experience taking electronic designs through prototype, testing, validation and into production.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and detail-oriented approach.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in RF or microwave electronics.

  • Experience within telecommunications, wireless communications or RF technology.

  • Background in defence, aerospace, space or high-altitude platforms.

  • Experience with PCIe, USB, Ethernet, CAN, I²C or SPI interfaces.

  • Experience working with high-volume electronics manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT).

  • Experience with thermal analysis and reliability engineering.

  • Experience carrying out MTBF and tolerance calculations.

  • Experience with component obsolescence and lifecycle management.

  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).

  • Experience working with embedded hardware or microprocessor-based systems.
