A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Engineer based in Bedford to join an innovative engineering business developing advanced electrical and electro-mechanical equipment for demanding applications.
This Electrical Engineer job offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from electrical design and system integration through to prototype development, testing, validation and production. This Electrical Engineer job is ideal for someone with experience designing and integrating electrical systems within a manufacturing, industrial, automation, automotive, aerospace or similar engineering environment. The successful candidate will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable products while ensuring designs meet performance, safety, quality and manufacturing requirements.
Please note, this is a 3–6 month contract position with the possibility of extension.
Electrical Engineer Job Responsibilities

Design and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and electrical layouts.

Develop and integrate electrical harnesses, cable assemblies and associated components.

Integrate electrical systems with mechanical equipment and assemblies.

Work with PLCs, sensors, motors, drives and other control systems.

Develop and execute electrical testing and validation procedures.
-
Troubleshoot electrical and control system faults and identify root causes.

Support prototype builds, testing, commissioning and production activities.

Produce technical documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, reports and maintenance documentation.

Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant safety, quality and industry standards.

Work closely with mechanical, electronics, software, manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure successful product integration.

Support the development of new products alongside the maintenance and improvement of existing designs.

Participate in engineering investigations, design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
Electrical Engineer Job Requirements

Degree, HNC or HND qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.

Previous experience in an Electrical Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineer or similar position.

Minimum 3 years' relevant electrical engineering experience, ideally within a manufacturing, industrial, automation or machinery environment.

Strong experience producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and electrical documentation.

Experience using electrical CAD software such as EPLAN, SEE Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical or similar.

Good understanding of PLC control systems, motor controls and electrical power distribution.

Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds, testing and electrical fault finding.

Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and detail-oriented approach.
Desirable Experience

Experience with CANbus, CANopen or J1939 communication systems.

Experience designing electrical harnesses and cable assemblies.

Experience with HMI systems, sensors, motors and drives.

Experience working with low and/or high-voltage electrical systems.
-
Background in industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, aviation, heavy equipment or specialist machinery.

Knowledge of functional safety and relevant electrical safety standards.
