Overview: Octagon Group is working with a leading defence technology organisation seeking an Electronics Engineer to join their growing engineering team based across Southampton and the Isle of Wight. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid‑level Electronics Engineer with around 1 to 3 years industry experience looking to accelerate their career within advanced electronic hardware development supporting military programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop high speed digital electronic hardware involving microprocessors or FPGA
- Support electronic designs from concept through to New Product Introduction
- Produce schematics, PCB layouts and detailed engineering documentation
- Interface with Ethernet and CAN Bus systems
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions on existing products
- Support the development of bespoke test equipment to streamline manufacturing
- Participate in peer reviews and ensure designs meet compliance and manufacturing standards
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to deliver innovative technical solutions
Required Experience:
- Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- 1 to 3 years of experience in electronics design
- Experience with embedded hardware and high‑speed digital circuits
- Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Altium
- Understanding of the electronic product development lifecycle
- Motivated, proactive and eager to develop within a defence engineering environment
