Location: Southampton / Isle of Wight (hybrid working 3 days onsite, 2 remote)

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience

Security: British nationals only. Must have held a UK passport and residency for a minimum of 5 years and be eligible for Security Clearance

Overview: Octagon Group is working with a leading defence technology organisation seeking an Electronics Engineer to join their growing engineering team based across Southampton and the Isle of Wight. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid‑level Electronics Engineer with around 1 to 3 years industry experience looking to accelerate their career within advanced electronic hardware development supporting military programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high speed digital electronic hardware involving microprocessors or FPGA
  • Support electronic designs from concept through to New Product Introduction
  • Produce schematics, PCB layouts and detailed engineering documentation
  • Interface with Ethernet and CAN Bus systems
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions on existing products
  • Support the development of bespoke test equipment to streamline manufacturing
  • Participate in peer reviews and ensure designs meet compliance and manufacturing standards
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to deliver innovative technical solutions

Required Experience:

  • Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in electronics design
  • Experience with embedded hardware and high‑speed digital circuits
  • Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Altium
  • Understanding of the electronic product development lifecycle
  • Motivated, proactive and eager to develop within a defence engineering environment
