A fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer based in/near Middlesborough are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering business developing advanced electronic and electro-mechanical products.

This Mechanical Design Engineer job offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design through to prototype development, validation and full-scale manufacture.

The successful candidate will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop innovative products while ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, quality and manufacturing requirements.

  • Mechanical Design Engineer Job Responsibilities
  • Design precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software, ideally Solid Works.
  • Develop enclosures, structural assemblies, thermal management solutions and precision mechanisms.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Select appropriate materials, finishes and manufacturing processes to optimise product performance and cost.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout product development.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and apply GD&T principles.
  • Support thermal and structural analysis activities where required.
  • Work closely with electronics, systems and manufacturing engineers to ensure successful product integration.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, validation and continuous product improvement.
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly documentation and Engineering Change documentation.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer or Product Design Engineer position.
  • Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally using Solid Works.
  • Experience designing precision machined components and complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Ideally a knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, castings, injection moulding or additive manufacturing.
