An established and fast-growing engineering company within the satellite communications and RF technology sector is looking to appoint a Head of RF Engineering to lead a small, high-performing team of RF Design Engineers. This is a key leadership role with a strong technical focus, ideal for someone who wants to shape RF strategy while remaining hands-on in design and development.
The Role
As Head of RF Engineering, you will take ownership of RF capability across the business, leading the design and delivery of advanced RF and microwave systems across a wide frequency range (0 - 30GHz). You will play a central role in driving innovation, setting technical direction, and ensuring best-in-class engineering standards. This role combines leadership, strategy, and hands-on engineering, supporting system architecture decisions, reviewing complex designs, and guiding products from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of RF / Microwave Engineers
- Define and implement RF engineering strategy aligned with business growth
- Oversee RF system design across DC to high-frequency (Ka-band and beyond) applications
- Provide technical leadership across active and passive RF design (amplifiers, filters, RF over fibre, etc.)
- Drive RF simulation, design verification, and lab-based testing (VNA, spectrum analysers, phase noise, etc.)
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (systems, PCB, mechanical, software, NPI) to deliver integrated solutions
About You
- Strong background in RF / Microwave design across a broad frequency range
- Experience working at discrete component level (active & passive circuits)
- Proven leadership or mentoring experience within an engineering team
- Strong understanding of the full product lifecycle (concept to production)
- Hands-on experience with RF simulation tools and lab-based testing
- Exposure to SATCOM, RF over fibre, or high-power RF systems is advantageous
What’s on Offer
- Salary up to £95,000 per annum
- Bonus scheme (10%)
- Enhanced benefits package
- Hybrid working (3 days onsite)
- Opportunity to lead RF engineering within a growing, innovation-driven business
