We’re looking for an experienced Senior Electronics Design Engineer to join a UK-based engineering consultancy delivering bespoke electronic products across a wide range of industries, including other regulated environments.
About the role
This is a hands-on, end-to-end design role where you will be involved in taking products from early concept through to prototype, validation, and manufacture. You’ll be working on a variety of technically challenging projects, often turning customer ideas into fully realised, production-ready electronic systems. If you enjoy working across different technologies and applications rather than being tied to a single long-term product, this could be an excellent fit.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing analogue and digital electronic systems
- Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design
- Developing microcontroller-based embedded hardware
- Supporting prototype build, debugging, and verification
- Working closely with firmware and mechanical engineers
- Producing technical design documentation and reports
- Supporting transfer of designs into manufacture
- Occasional direct interaction with customers during requirements and design stages
What we’re looking for:
- 8–10+ years’ experience in electronics / hardware design
- Strong analogue and digital circuit design experience
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools
- Ability to interpret datasheets, protocols, and system requirements
- Strong problem-solving and hands‑on engineering ability
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, project‑based environment
- Communication protocols: SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet
- Power supply / DC-DC / SMPS design
- FPGA / CPLD exposure (not essential)
- EMC testing and failure analysis
- Experience in regulated industries (medical, ATEX, aerospace, defence)
- Design for Manufacture (DFM / DFA)
Why this role?
- Work on a wide variety of technically challenging projects
- See designs through the full product lifecycle
- Real hands‑on engineering (not just specification or oversight)
- Exposure to multiple industries and technologies
- Work closely with experienced engineers across disciplines
- Fast‑paced environment where ideas become real products quickly
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline
- Right to work in the UK
Who this role suits:
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy:
- Solving complex design problems
- Working across multiple projects and technologies
- Taking ownership of full product development cycles
- Working in a consultancy/design services environment
