The Senior RF Engineer is responsible for significant work packages of RF/Microwave module development, test, and support as well as antenna design, modelling, and requirements. They support other areas of the business with RF/antenna design expertise.
Job Functions
- Proactively lead antenna and RF equipment development, via internal or sub-contracted work packages.
- Maintain antenna and RF designs – e.g., for product improvements and obsolescence management.
- Oversee derivation of requirements and specifications and their verification & validation.
- Provide technical support to Supply Chain, Quality, Suppliers and Customers.
- Support external antenna and RF designs and maintain antenna/RF Production Tests.
- Support RF module manufacture – responding to technical issues, undertaking trend analysis and root cause analysis.
- Ensure that Engineering Procedures are correctly followed, and the quality is maintained through design and manufacture.
- Generate estimates, plan and generally manage small work packages.
- Ensure adequate documentation is maintained.
- Any other tasks associated with this role.
Requirements
Essential
- PCB Design at microwave frequencies - comfortable with manipulating schematics and defining/reviewing required layout.
- RF Component selection; knowledge of High Power RF amplifier, Low Noise Amplifiers, Limiters, Circulators, Filters, Mixers and Phase Locked Loop usage.
- RF System Design (e.g. Cascade Analysis).
- Familiarity with RF test equipment (e.g. Spectrum Analysers, Vector Network Analysers).
- Antenna theory and design and test including array antennas, including slotted array and printed antennas.
- Design for test and design for manufacture.
- Experience of a Production Environment (e.g. good understanding of processes such as SMT).
- Self-motivated and enjoys working within a team.
- Good command of written and verbal English.
Desirable
- Familiar with Altium PCB Design Software.
- Familiar with Altair RF and antenna design software.
- Working knowledge of radar or closely related applications (e.g., Comms).
- Experience of any of the following:
- Knowledge of digital electronics or power supply design.
- Experience of requirements management and/or systems engineering disciplines.
- Test Automation (e.g. through MATLAB or Python).
- EMC.
- Regulatory compliance (e.g. FCC, ITU or ETSI requirements).
