Days of Working: This position will be based at FCDO Abercrombie House, Glasgow, working Monday to Friday. Some degree of flexibility is required as you may need to start at 06:00. We are looking for a proactive and dependable Facilities Assistant to support the day‑to‑day operations at Abercrombie House. This hands‑on role is vital to ensuring the smooth movement of goods, equipment, and mail across the site, while also supporting general facilities tasks and maintaining a safe, efficient, and well‑organised environment.

Responsibilities

  • Handle deliveries and stock movement from goods‑in to dispatch, following site procedures.
  • Carry out porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment, and mail across the site.
  • Support room setups for meetings and events, including arranging furniture and connecting AV equipment.
  • Assist with general facilities tasks such as changing clock batteries, minor office layout changes, and supporting third‑party contractors.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure stock rotation.
  • Respond to requests via the Helpdesk and complete tasks in a timely and professional manner.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, including manual handling, COSHH, and risk assessments.

Qualifications

  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
  • Previous experience in a facilities, porter, or warehouse role is beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence – confident in operating a Luton‑type vehicle.
  • Comfortable with manual handling and physically active tasks.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and follow health and safety procedures.
