We are looking to enhance our night time Customs & Compliance team with the addition of a new Customs & Compliance Clerk. The current team consists of 4 customs experts who manage all aspects of our Air and Road imports and exports. You'll be responsible for overall compliance and adhering to procedures aligned to HMRC in the import and export of our customers' goods from the UK, across the world. The position reports to the Customs and Compliance Supervisor.
Responsibilities- General Imports and exports from start to finish (Air and Road freight)
- Customs entries and clearances using E-Customs for both road and air freight
- Completing Export and Import Customs Entries using correct procedures and CPCs ensuring that re-export rules and CPCs are applied for export-import shipments
- Completing supplementary declarations within 14 days on all C21 export entries
- Sending export pre-alerts to destination offices as soon as flights have departed
- Liaising with Customers and Airlines, Hauliers & answering all telephone, email enquiries
- Liaising with Customs when required, to facilitate smooth clearances
- Liaise regularly with overseas offices, partners or agents, reporting any problems - off-loads, missing cargo, short shipments and responding to enquiries
- Updating Whizz (in-house system) with all delayed/missing bags and action taken
- Invoicing of all jobs with Duty and VAT deferred to our DAN or FAS account
- Tracing & Tracking Import & Export of all Air and Road freight Shipments
- Arranging Collections of Air Freight from Airlines/sheds
- Maintaining all log books by making daily entries
- Creating transit documents (TAD) and discharge of T1 documents
- Referral Shipments to be made available to customs and secured in locked customs referral cages until authorized for release as directed by Customs/Border Force
- You must be well organised and hard working, able to prioritise tasks in what can be a pressurised and time sensitive role, handling Road and Air Freight shipments for Import and/or Export to meet with flight times and road departures
- Ability to use own initiative and improve the service we offer and deliver
- Good written and verbal communication skills with a great focus on accuracy
- A good understanding of import and export procedures and experience in Customs formalities as well as reliefs
- A basic understanding of NES MoU regulations and reliefs
- Self-motivated and able to work without supervision
- Experienced team player
- Reliable and flexible
- Full knowledge and ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Experience in OPR/IPR, home use, end use, British Returns, CFSP, Temporary Imports/exports, warehousing and other customs procedures
