The Role
The Regional Safety Manager provides independent leadership, assurance and oversight of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) standards across the business. You will be covering the Oxfordshire region with a few days in the regional office and the rest out covering projects.
The role ensures compliance with Group policies, legal requirements and critical risk controls across operations and projects. Through audits, inspections and proactive engagement, it drives a positive safety culture, strengthens accountability and supports continuous improvement in safety performance and operational standards.
The Duties
- Promote, implement and enforce Group SHE standards, legal requirements, client standards and internal procedures across all operations and projects, holding management accountable for compliance and critical risk controls.
- Drive a strong “Safety First” culture through visible leadership, setting expectations from pre-start to project completion, and challenging unsafe behaviours or substandard practices.
- Ensure effective planning, set-up and control of projects to achieve “right first time” delivery and consistent application of standards.
- Act as Critical Risk Lead for designated high-risk activities, reviewing and strengthening controls and driving continuous improvement.
- Deliver independent assurance through inspections, audits and CASSI-compliant site safety inspections, ensuring consistent coverage across all active projects.
- Manage and ensure timely close-out of inspection actions, non-conformances, corrective actions and KPI requirements, escalating where necessary.
- Lead investigations into serious incidents and high-risk near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and lessons learned are embedded.
- Analyse safety data, trends and intelligence (including inspections, incidents and near misses) to identify emerging risks and drive performance improvement.
- Review effectiveness of procedures and working practices, recommending improvements to strengthen risk control, consistency and operational performance.
- Work collaboratively with SHE Advisors through joint site visits to support consistency, coaching and development.
- Build strong relationships with clients and external stakeholders to support effective safety management and communication.
The Requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma, relevant Degree or NVQ Level 6 (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, construction methods, plant and equipment, and risk management systems.
- Senior SHE role within the construction sector. Experience of audits, inspections, incident investigation and safety management systems.
- Independent judgement and integrity. Strong communication and influencing skills. Data analysis and problem-solving. Ability to challenge behaviours and drive accountability.
- Ability to influence operational teams and promote a positive safety culture.
- Full UK driving licence. Reliable, professional, self-motivated and resilient. Approachable but firm. Discreet, diplomatic and impartial in judgement.
