WORKING DAYS - This is a permanent, full-time role (45 hours per week, planned across varying days and times), with participation on an on-call rota approximately one week in two. There will be the requirement to occasionally cover a shift should the need arise due to sickness or other issues and no other cover is available.

We are seeking a proactive, people-focused Assistant Campus Security Manager to support the leadership of a 24/7 security operation protecting students, staff, visitors, and the wider University estate.
About the role
Reporting to the Campus Security Manager, you will help lead operational teams to deliver a responsive, high-quality, and customer-focused security service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the security team in delivering 24/7 operations
- Manage daily operations including staffing, resource deployment, and rota coordination
- Act as point of contact during emergencies and critical incidents, including escalation and liaison with emergency services
- Oversee incident management systems, ensuring accurate reporting, investigations, and evidence handling (CCTV and statements)
- Support safeguarding, welfare incidents, and major university events (e.g. Open Days, protests)
- Ensure compliance with University policies and statutory requirements, and support staff performance, training, and development
- Act as deputy for the Campus Security Manager when required
- Ability to use Microsoft packages such as Excel & Word as there will be a requirement to complete various reporting and administrative tasks
About you
You will:
- Have experience in security operations with supervisory responsibility
- Be confident managing incidents in high-pressure environments
- Be calm, decisive, and able to take control in emergencies
- Have experience managing staff performance and operational issues
- Be strong in communication, report writing, and incident documentation
- Understand investigations, evidence handling, and basic legal principles
- Be organised with strong planning and resource management skills
- Hold a SIA Door Supervisor licence and CCTV License (or willing to obtain a CCTV License when you start)
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be able to work on an on-call rota
The ability to build effective working relationships with staff and partners is essential – ensuring the correct balance of support as well as providing professional direction.
