We are seeking a Cloud & Platform Engineer to help deliver the organisation’s cloud platform strategy, primarily in Microsoft Azure, with additional input on AWS and GCP. You will support the migration of workloads from on‑premise environments to cloud platforms, contribute to the design and upkeep of secure and scalable landing zones, and help ensure cloud services remain resilient, compliant, and cost‑effective. The role also includes supporting cloud backup and recovery solutions, such as Rubrik, to maintain strong data protection across hybrid environments. Reporting to the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer, this position plays a key role in reducing reliance on legacy datacentres and accelerating cloud adoption. You will work with cross‑functional teams to maintain secure, reliable systems and advance infrastructure modernisation. The ideal candidate understands legacy platforms, has experience supporting vulnerability management, and can assist with cloud migrations to enable a smooth, secure transition.

Main responsibilities

  • Cloud Strategy & Architecture
    • Work with Enterprise Architecture and the broader Engineering function to define and own the cloud platform strategy and target architecture
    • Support the design and maintain Azure landing zones, including:
      • Network topology
      • Identity integration
      • Security guardrails
      • Governance and policy
    • Support the evaluation and recommendation of cloud services and patterns aligned to business needs
  • Migration and Modernization
    • Support the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer with the migration of on-premise systems to cloud platforms
    • Support Systems Engineering to:
      • Map application and infrastructure dependencies
      • Identify migration paths (re-host, re-platform, re-architect, retire)
    • Support datacentre exit initiatives and decommissioning activities
  • Platform Engineering & Reliability
    • Build and operate scalable cloud platforms using Infrastructure as Code
    • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting across cloud environments
    • Ensure platforms meet availability, performance, and recovery objectives
    • Support incident response and complex problem resolution
    • Partner with SRE and Operations to improve reliability and automation
  • Backup, Recovery & Resilience
    • Support the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer own the cloud and hybrid backup strategy
    • Design and operate backup and recovery platforms (e.g., Rubrik)
    • Ensure backup coverage, immutability, and restore testing
    • Define and validate RTO/RPO for cloud workloads
    • Support disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Security, Governance & Cost Management
    • Work closely with Security to:
      • Embed security controls into cloud platforms
      • Support compliance with SOC 2 / ISO 27001
    • Implement:
      • Least-privilege access models
      • Encryption standards
      • Policy-based governance

    Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • 3+ years in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering
    • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure
    • Working knowledge of AWS and GCP
    • Experience with:
      • Hybrid cloud architectures
      • Network design and connectivity
      • Identity and access integration
    • Experience with cloud backup and recovery platforms (e.g., Rubrik)
    • Strategic thinker with strong execution capability
    • Clear communicator across technical and non‑technical audiences
    • On‑prem to cloud migrations
    • Datacentre consolidation or exit programs
    • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001)
    • Experience in regulated or high‑availability environments
    • Infrastructure as Code experience
    • CI/CD for infrastructure
