Claimant Complex Injury Claims - Paralegal/Legal Assistant
An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a specialist personal injury firm in the Complex Injury Team dealing with predominantly Claimant Multi-Track RTA cases however, experience in EL/PL and OL claims would be welcome. We are looking for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant to help run complex multi-track personal injury cases and litigation. The successful candidate will be working for two fee earners but the vision is that each fee earner will have their own Paralegal/Legal Assistant.
OCL Solicitors is a rapidly expanding law firm dealing largely in Road Traffic Accident Litigation and has excellent career progression.
Job Description
As a Legal Assistant you will help Fee Earners progress their cases to an effective and satisfactory conclusion for clients.
The main duties will include:
- Assist in running a case from letter of claim stage right through to settlement or Trial by taking instruction from the Fee Earner and providing all relevant assistance
- Being able to take instructions on a case and be able to proceed with the job in hand
- Ability to talk through cases proactively with the Fee earner making suggestions to assist the case
- Dealing with new claims or claims that have started life in the MOJ Portal/OIC which turn into Multi-Track cases and have been dropped from the process
- Ability to manage a client well, keep them updated and informed when needed in a professional and empathetic manner
- Taking and drafting witness statements and obtained all early evidence in support of liability if required
- Obtaining medical records, reviewing the same and assessing what medical evidence is required
- Instructing medical experts and reviewing/obtaining any further medical evidence
- Drafting Schedules of Loss
- Assessing case value
- Preparing and drafting Court Proceedings and other Court documents/papers
- Instructing Counsel
- Ability to work well within a team and independently
Place of Work and Hours
The Complex Claims team works on a hybrid rota whereby we are in the office in Doncaster on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every other week and then one Friday a month. The rest of the time is working from home with full equipment provided. Full time hours are a 37.5 hour week. There is a canteen on site.
