We work exclusively with this client on their Belfast engineering search, and have already made a number of key hires into their team this quarter. Role Overview We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our client's engineering leadership team, helping build software used by millions of consumers worldwide. You'll come from a strong technical background, but this is not a hands-on coding role - instead, you'll set technical direction, coach and develop your team, and provide the architectural and delivery oversight needed to keep engineers building the right things, the right way. You'll build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and regularly interface with other engineering teams, while also working closely with product management and product design to shape new features and client experiences. Key Responsibilities Setting technical direction for your team and providing architectural oversight Providing coaching, mentorship and career development for your engineers Optimising team velocity - prioritising workload, removing roadblocks, and protecting the team from outside disruption Collaborating closely with Product Management on strategy and backlog prioritisation Anticipating future hiring needs and partnering with talent to recruit and evaluate new team members Giving regular and formal performance feedback, including completing performance evaluations Advising teams on technical difficulties that arise in the course of their work Flagging issues your team might overlook - scalability, performance, security, compliance, operational readiness Staying current on the development tools and technologies your team uses Interfacing regularly with other engineering teams across the organisation What You'll Need Essential: 6+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong technical background (Java / AWS preferred) 3+ years as a People Manager/Lead Experience in an agile software development environment, identifying and managing risk while seeking continuous improvement An analytical approach to evaluating capability needs and the suitability of initiatives against strategy Comfortable balancing speed-to-market with long-term engineering decisions Desirable: Practical experience with AI development and delivery, driving modern AI capabilities into real-world software solutions Excellent stakeholder communication - able to challenge constructively and present clearly to clients at varying levels Data-driven decision-making, comfortable taking calculated risks and failing fast Benefits & Package Β£100,000+ salary Hybrid working model (extremely flexible) Global business with genuine scale and career development paths Values-led culture built on transparency, trust and innovation Collaborative, cross-team engineering environment Opportunity to shape engineering direction at a senior leadership level You must currently reside in Northern Ireland.
