Principal Product Manager

About the Company

My client is an AI company working with government and highly regulated industries, building the technology and the operating model that take AI from proof of concept into real operational use.

The Role

There is a working MVP, a growing pipeline of use cases and an evolving roadmap. You pick that up and take it forward. Reporting to the Head of Product and Design, you will sequence the pipeline against customer demand and platform readiness, decide what generalises into the product and what stays bespoke, and build the MVP out into something that scales across sectors.

This suits someone who wants real ownership of a product line rather than a slice of somebody else's roadmap, and who is comfortable standing behind what the product asserts.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end product lifecycle, from discovery and roadmap definition through delivery and iteration




• Evolve the roadmap, sequencing the use case pipeline against customer demand, commercial opportunity and platform readiness




• Set the boundary of the product, judging which problems belong here and which belong elsewhere in the portfolio, and holding that line




• Define, measure and refine OKRs, success metrics and adoption goals as the product moves from MVP to scale




• Build deep expertise in portfolio decision‑making: business cases, approvals pathways, financial planning cycles and the operating model these decisions sit within




• Translate that process knowledge into product, working with the data science team on the scoring, constraints and objectives the optimisation runs against




• Own the trust properties of the product, so that confidence and uncertainty are surfaced rather than hidden and every recommendation traces back to its evidence




• Champion decision‑led design, where each output surfaces a question, an option or an action rather than a dashboard to interpret




• Partner with the platform, engineering, design and commercial teams to shape the requirements this product line depends on




• Meet customers directly, including senior decision‑makers and the finance and scrutiny communities, to understand demand signals and constraints

What You’ll Need

• A track record shipping complex, data‑heavy B2B or B2G products into live production environments




• Experience taking an early‑stage product past its MVP, sequencing candidate use cases and deciding what generalises into the product




• Solid understanding of AI in enterprise settings, including agentic systems, natural language interfaces and knowledge graphs




• A realistic view of non‑deterministic behaviour and a deliberate approach to how trust is built into it




• Enough technical depth to turn engineering and user needs into requirements that hold up under scrutiny




• The presence to hold your own with senior government and regulated‑sector stakeholders




• Active UK Security Clearance (SC), or eligibility to obtain it




• For the Principal level, previous ownership of a product line and its commercial outcomes




• Experience of decision‑support or optimisation products where the output is a recommendation rather than a report ... constrained optimisation, scenario modelling, scoring, confidence and uncertainty




• Background in portfolio prioritisation, capital allocation, business cases and approvals processes in government, defence or another heavily regulated sector
