Why This Organisation
If you are an engineer who wants to ship real software that matters, work with people who trust you to own your work, and build your skills in an AI first environment before most of the industry has caught up, this is worth reading. Our client is a fast growing technology company that has successfully delivered software across multiple high profile, mission critical campaigns in a regulated domain. Their client base is forecast to grow significantly over the next twelve to eighteen months and they are hiring engineers who can grow with them. The engineering team is small, the responsibility is real and the work directly impacts important outcomes.
The environment is AI first in a genuine sense. You will be expected to build software using AI agents, embed AI into your day to day workflow and help the team develop those practices further. You do not need to be fluent already - but you do need to be curious, quick to adapt and ready to push yourself. That kind of hands on experience with AI assisted engineering is becoming one of the most valuable things an engineer can have on their CV.
The benefits are strong too: Free food and drinks from an onsite café, subsidised gym membership, bike to work scheme, flexible and hybrid working including condensed working patterns, and a defined performance bonus on top of your salary.
The Role and What It Can Do For Your Career
This is a Software Engineer position with genuine end to end ownership. You will ship features from design through to production, contribute to code reviews and architectural discussions, and take responsibility for components and projects without needing constant direction. The role reports to the Head of Engineering and sits at the heart of a team that is building out its engineering function as the company scales.
What makes this role valuable for your career is the combination of ownership, AI exposure and the pace of growth. You will not be a small cog in a large machine. You will be someone whose work is visible, whose decisions have impact and who is expected to grow into more senior responsibilities as the team expands. Engineers who join now will be well placed to step into lead roles as the organisation scales over the next twelve to eighteen months.
The stack is TypeScript across the board, AWS native serverless architecture primarily using Lambda, relational and document based data stores, modern frontend, CI and CD pipelines on AWS and infrastructure as code via AWS CDK. The organisation is ISO 27001 certified, which means you will be working to high security and compliance standards on sensitive, mission critical software.
What you will need:
- Strong technical fundamentals across front end, back end API design and database work.
- Ability to work independently - pick up a piece of work, remove ambiguity, define what done looks like and deliver it.
- Composure and integrity under pressure - direct, willing to admit mistakes and calm under stress.
- Curiosity about AI assisted engineering and a willingness to dive into new tooling quickly.
- Comfortable working in a small startup environment with broad responsibility.
- Visible growth across recent roles and openness to feedback.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with TypeScript, AWS native serverless (Lambda), Postgres or Angular.
- Experience with regulated or mission critical software.
- Experience working in a small team with broad responsibility.
Why You Should Apply Now
This is the kind of role that is easy to overlook and hard to find again. A small, ambitious team at an inflection point in its growth, an AI first mandate that will genuinely develop your skills, end to end ownership of real work and a company operating in a domain where what you build actually matters. Salary up to £55,000 plus a defined performance bonus on agreed targets. Hybrid working from Derry/Londonderry with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
