Customer-facing senior role, still properly hands-on with code.

Shaping and delivering AI solutions for large, highly regulated organisations.

High trust, high consequence work with senior stakeholders from day one.

About the Company: My client is a UK technology company building an AI operating and orchestration layer that puts intelligent systems to work inside large, complex organisations where accuracy and accountability really matter. Their customers operate in tightly regulated environments and the platform is already live and in daily operational use. The engineering group is small, senior and unusually fast moving, with AI tooling built into how the team genuinely works rather than bolted on afterwards.

The Role: This is the role for an engineer who is genuinely good with people and genuinely good with a keyboard. You will sit between customers and the core platform, running discovery, shaping what good looks like, and then building it rather than handing it over. Expect to be in rooms with senior stakeholders explaining trade-offs honestly, then back at your desk making the thing work. It suits someone who has grown tired of consultancy that stops at the slide deck.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical discovery sessions with customers to define real, solvable problems.
  • Shape AI solution designs and take ownership of delivering them.
  • Build LLM and agent-based workflows on the core platform.
  • Define success criteria and evaluation approaches with customers up front.
  • Manage expectations and surface issues early rather than late.
  • Identify follow-on opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Codify repeatable delivery patterns for the wider Solutions team.
  • Act as the trusted technical voice for a portfolio of accounts.

What You'll Need:Essential:

  • 5+ years in a client-facing technical role, consulting or solutions engineering.
  • Strong Python and production experience with large language models.
  • Track record of shaping and delivering technical solutions for external customers.
  • Confident communicator with senior and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Working fluency with modern AI development tooling.
  • Eligible for UK security clearance.

Desirable / Nice to Have:

  • Experience delivering into a heavily regulated sector.
  • Exposure to retrieval augmented generation and evaluation frameworks.

Why Apply?

  • Consulting work that ends in shipped capability rather than recommendations.
  • Serious problems for serious clients, with real operational consequences.
  • Share options as part of the package.
  • Small team, minimal process, decisions made quickly.
  • Flexible working pattern.
  • Real exposure to founders and commercial leadership.
  • Scope to define how the Solutions function operates as it scales.

How to prepare for a job interview at Ocho

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Ocho uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
