The Role

This is a Staff-level engineering position within a high-performing Belfast team responsible for a large-scale, high-throughput platform used globally every day. You will operate as both a technical leader and hands-on engineer, contributing to complex system design while helping shape engineering standards, platform direction, and architectural decisions across the team. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems at scale, mentoring other developers, and influencing how modern software platforms are built and evolved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems and APIs
  • Mentor and support engineers across multiple levels within the team
  • Drive engineering best practices across code quality, testing, and maintainability
  • Contribute hands-on to complex platform and architecture initiatives
  • Improve platform scalability, resilience, and system performance
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, deployment activities, and automated testing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across distributed systems
  • Ensure systems align with security and compliance standards
  • Contribute to Agile planning, estimation, and technical roadmap discussions

What You'll Need

Essential

  • 6+ years' commercial software engineering experience
  • Strong backend development experience using C# / .NET
  • Experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
  • Strong SQL Server / relational database knowledge
  • Experience working within CI/CD environments
  • Automated testing / BDD experience
  • Comfortable working within Agile engineering teams
  • Strong communication and technical leadership skills
  • Must be based in Northern Ireland or within commuting distance of Belfast

Nice to Have

  • Experience within high-scale or transaction-heavy environments
  • Cloud or architecture experience
  • Exposure to security or compliance-focused systems
