Senior Software Engineer (Python / C++ | Robotics & AI) Senior engineer with real architectural ownership on a cross-functional robotics and autonomous systems team Python and C++ across the full stack embedded and edge, simulation, and AI/ML Full-time, hybrid, based in Northern Ireland £60,000 to £80,000 depending on experience A rare chance to build AI that leaves the screen and operates in the real world About the Company Our client is an engineering-led technology company working at the frontier of robotics, autonomous systems and artificial intelligence. Their software runs on real machines in real environments, built through close collaboration between hardware and software engineers who sit side by side. Technical depth is respected here, the problems are new by nature, and the work has very few equivalents anywhere on the island of Ireland. The Role Most senior software roles ask you to implement someone else's design. This one asks you to shape the system. You will join a small, cross-functional team building software from low-level embedded control through to simulation, visualisation and AI-driven decision-making, and you will help define how those pieces fit together. Working alongside robotics, hardware and data science specialists, you will see your code move from a simulator onto edge hardware and out into the field. If you have spent your career on web services and want harder, more tangible problems, or you already work in embedded or robotics and want more architectural influence and modern AI, this role offers both. Key Responsibilities Own architecture decisions across the stack, from embedded edge devices to higher-level application logic Design and build robust, production-quality systems in Python and C++ Integrate AI/ML into robotics systems for perception, autonomy, decision-making and predictive modelling Optimise models to run efficiently on resource-constrained edge hardware Develop and deploy software on Raspberry Pi and similar single-board platforms Build simulation and visualisation environments using tools such as Gazebo Apply generative AI and LLM tooling to development workflows and product features where it adds value Define technical requirements and system interfaces with hardware, robotics, data science and QA colleagues Lead debugging and performance work across tightly integrated software and hardware Raise the bar on code quality through testing, code review and clear technical documentation What You'll Need Essential 5+ years of professional software development at a senior level Strong Python and C++ Solid grasp of software architecture, including design patterns, modularity and scalability Hands-on experience with Raspberry Pi or similar embedded and single-board platforms Practical experience applying PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn to real-world problems Comfortable in Linux or macOS development environments, with Git and collaborative workflows Full right to work in the UK Bonus ROS or ROS 2, Gazebo, ArduPilot or MAVLink Edge AI deployment experience (quantisation, TensorRT, ONNX or TFLite) Background in computer vision, sensor fusion, autonomous navigation or unmanned vehicle systems (UAV, UGV or USV) Why Apply? £60,000 to £80,000 depending on experience Hybrid, full-time working [Annual leave, pension and other headline benefits] Architectural influence from day one in a team small enough for your decisions to matter Some of the most technically interesting work in the local market robotics, autonomy and AI in one role Software you can watch move, not just deploy Rare skills that will only become more valuable as autonomous systems go mainstream Interested?
