About the Company

Our client is a global provider of financial and commodities market infrastructure, connecting clients to liquidity and data through its people and technology. They have committed to a three year global programme to modernise engineering across all divisions and applications, moving to faster, safer and more automated delivery at scale. This role exists to lead that uplift.

The Role

You will lead the modernisation of how software is built, tested and delivered, combining hands-on engineering with thought leadership. Working with a mix of internal and external teams, you will design the DevOps strategy, build the tooling and pipelines to deliver it, and bring application teams around the world with you, showing measurable gains in productivity, time to market and operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design the DevOps modernisation and adoption strategy, drawing on current industry practice and technology.
  • Engineer internal tooling that automates software development, testing and production delivery.
  • Lead the move to fully automated delivery pipelines, with testing built in, to remove manual overhead from releases.
  • Improve production stability and resilience through better process and observability tooling.
  • Support application teams to adopt a consistent set of tools and practices for agile, incremental delivery across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to bring in best practice and accelerate adoption across the company.
  • Architect containerised and serverless solutions where appropriate.
  • Drive automation of environment management, logging and monitoring.

What You'll Need

  • Experience leading transformation programmes that significantly uplift DevOps and SDLC automation is essential.
  • Experience building fully automated CI/CD pipelines as code, with unit, integration and smoke testing integrated, using tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube and Nexus, is essential.
  • Deep and broad experience with AWS is essential.
  • Strong Azure or GCP experience will also be considered.
  • Experience practising and leading DevOps in financial services or technology companies is essential.
  • Experience delivering measurable productivity improvements and running a metrics driven continuous improvement practice is essential.
  • Strong communication skills and experience influencing development teams to adopt new tools and practices is essential.
  • Experience containerising applications, writing Dockerfiles and deploying to Kubernetes is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with SRE principles and observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus and CloudWatch is highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python, Go, PowerShell, Bash or Groovy) and working knowledge of a programming language (Java, C#, Node.js, Ruby or C++) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Amazon Linux, RHEL and Ubuntu is a strong advantage.
  • Experience working in Agile teams (for example SAFe) and with Lean delivery principles is desirable.
  • A degree in Computer Science is desirable.

Why Apply?

  • Lead a global engineering modernisation programme from strategy through to delivery.
  • Combine hands-on engineering with real influence over how teams worldwide build and ship software.
  • Shape the tools and practices that application teams will adopt company wide.
  • Work alongside vendors and service providers to bring best in class practice into the business.
  • Hybrid working from Belfast, 3 days in the office and 2 from home.
  • Salary of £60,000 to £70,000 DOE.

How to prepare for a job interview at Ocho

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Ocho uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
