Hands-on technical leadership across ETL/ELT, Snowflake, DBT and cloud data architecture.

Fully remote working model. Competitive salary plus bonus and benefits.

About the Company:

Our client is a global fintech organisation operating at significant scale, powering merchant commerce across international markets. Their platforms process millions of transactions daily and are engineered for high availability, performance and regulatory compliance. With a culture built around small teams doing big things, they offer real autonomy, genuine ownership and the opportunity to shape infrastructure that matters.

The Role:

This is a senior engineering leadership position at the heart of a high-performing data function. You will lead a team of data engineers building and scaling a transaction matching and data platform that sits at the core of the business. Reporting to the Director of Data Management, you will define and execute the data engineering roadmap, drive automation across pipelines and workflows, and bring a hands-on approach to engineering alongside the leadership skills to grow a high-trust, high-output team. This is an opportunity for someone who thrives on solving large-scale data challenges in a fast-paced, agile environment where outcomes matter more than process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of data engineers, managing capacity, sprint planning and delivery in an agile environment.
  • Define and execute the data engineering roadmap in partnership with senior leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Design and implement enterprise-scale data architectures and high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Remain hands-on with coding, code review and technical contribution across the platform.
  • Identify and drive automation opportunities across data pipelines, operational processes and reporting workflows.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards, testing frameworks and SLAs across all integrated data sources.
  • Oversee design, implementation and maintenance of data integrations between on-prem and cloud enterprise services.
  • Champion a culture of documentation including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries and runbooks.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Business Analysts to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding and performance management, building and retaining a high-performing engineering team.

What You'll Need:

Essential:

  • 8+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a people management or technical lead role.
  • Strong hands-on SQL proficiency (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL or Snowflake) and experience with a JVM-based language (Java or Groovy).
  • Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformation applications.
  • Hands-on experience with DBT and Snowflake.
  • Experience in regulated financial services environments (payments, reconciliation or safeguarding).
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and cloud data architecture.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (GitLab, Jenkins or equivalent) and agile delivery practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business audiences.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Oracle EPM or similar reconciliation platforms.
  • Experience with automation frameworks, unit testing and integration testing for data pipelines.
  • Python scripting experience.

Why Apply?

  • Competitive salary up to £110,000 plus bonus.
  • Fully remote working across the UK and Ireland.
  • Real ownership and autonomy in a high-trust engineering culture.
  • Opportunity to shape a mission-critical data platform at enterprise scale.
  • Small teams, big scope - no needless process getting in the way.
  • A genuinely collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on learning, growth and craft.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health cover, pension and wellness support.
