The Role
This is a hands-on technical leadership role within a scaling engineering team. You'll lead backend engineering across multiple client platforms, helping define architectural direction, engineering standards, and delivery practices across modern cloud-native systems. You'll work closely with engineering leadership, cloud teams, designers, and stakeholders while mentoring developers and shaping the future of backend engineering within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead backend engineering strategy and technical direction across projects
- Design and deliver scalable Node.js and TypeScript microservices
- Define architecture standards, API strategy, and engineering best practices
- Drive cloud-native development patterns across AWS and Azure environments
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, coaching, and technical leadership
- Collaborate with stakeholders on technical scoping and delivery planning
- Champion engineering quality, CI/CD, observability, and maintainability
- Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to long-term platform strategy
What You'll Need
Essential
- 8+ years' commercial backend engineering experience
- Strong Node.js and TypeScript expertise
- Experience leading engineering teams or technical direction
- Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Proven experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud-native engineering
