About the Company:
Our client is an established player in the payments and fintech space, running one of the UK and Ireland's most significant transaction processing platforms. Operating at genuine scale, the engineering teams here handle millions of transactions daily across highly regulated, security-critical environments. This is a business that takes technical quality seriously and invests in the people who build it.
The Role:
This is a hands-on Staff Software Engineer position sitting at the intersection of technical delivery and engineering leadership. You will contribute directly to the design and build of scalable backend systems while mentoring and guiding a team of engineers around you. This is not a purely managerial step up; it is a role for someone who still wants to be close to the code while also shaping how the wider team thinks and works. You will have a real voice in architecture decisions, engineering standards, and the technical direction of a platform that matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, supporting their technical growth and day-to-day delivery.
- Design and build scalable, high-availability backend systems and APIs.
- Drive architectural decisions and contribute to engineering standards across the team.
- Own complex problem-solving, from diagnosis through to production resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver roadmap features on time and to a high standard.
- Support testing, deployment pipelines, and production environment stability.
- Champion compliance with security standards and industry best practices, including within PCI-regulated contexts.
What You'll Need:
Essential:
- 6+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong backend development skills in .NET / C#.
- Proven experience building scalable web services and distributed systems.
- Solid grounding in software design principles and architecture.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction.
- Based in Northern Ireland or commutable to Belfast.
Why Apply?
- 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
- Flexible, remote-first working model.
- Private medical and dental cover included.
- Pension matched between 5% and 8%.
- Enhanced maternity leave of 26 weeks.
- Life assurance and income protection.
- Electric car scheme, cycle to work, and share purchase plan.
- A genuine staff-level role with real technical authority and visibility across the platform.
