What You'll Be Doing:
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will design, build, and optimise high-quality server-side applications and APIs that power complex digital experiences. Working closely with front-end engineers, DevOps specialists, cloud architects, and project managers, your responsibilities will include:
- Building server-side applications and microservices built with TypeScript
- Building RESTful and GraphQL APIs using modern, best-in-class frameworks
- Implementing strong patterns for performance, reliability, and maintainability in cloud-native environments
- Collaborating with DevOps and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure smooth CI/CD pipelines and efficient deployments across AWS, Azure, and other cloud platforms
- Using serverless functions and cloud-managed services where appropriate to build flexible, scalable solutions
- Participating in project planning and architectural discussions to guide technical decision-making
- Leading code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and supporting the growth of junior engineers
- Staying current with emerging back-end technologies, patterns, and tooling, identifying where they can add value

What We're Looking For:
Essential:
- 5+ years of professional back-end engineering experience, with at least 3 years using Node.js
- Strong understanding of TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Proven experience building scalable APIs and microservices
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including serverless compute
- Solid understanding of authentication, authorisation, and API security best practices
- Strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with cloud-native development patterns
Desirable:
- Experience with headless e-commerce platforms such as commercetools, Shopify Plus, or BigCommerce
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems (AWS EventBridge, Azure EventGrid)
- Experience integrating with enterprise systems and complex third-party APIs, including payments, fulfilment, and ERP
- Experience delivering large-scale enterprise projects with multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge of performance optimisation and observability tooling
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including ORM/ODM frameworks
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CDK
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
