About the Company

Our client is a fast-growing tech business who have built a reputation for promoting from within and backing ambitious people with real opportunity and real support. The engineering culture is built on trust, honesty, and squads that take genuine ownership of what they build.

The Role

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role split across two core front-end platforms: a multi-app web monorepo and a cross-platform mobile client built on React Native. You will deliver complex features end-to-end, contribute to architecture and patterns alongside the lead, and help shape the tooling and AI workflows the wider team relies on. It is an individual contributor role with broad scope, working closely with product, design, content, and platform teams. You will be expected to bring strong code, thoughtful review, and pragmatic technical judgement to everything you touch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver complex features end-to-end across both the web and mobile platforms.
  • Contribute to front-end architecture and technical direction alongside the lead engineer.
  • Review code across both repositories, upholding quality and consistency.
  • Own module boundaries, shared libraries, and the dependency graph within the Nx monorepo.
  • Integrate new third-party SDKs end-to-end, from typed wrapper through to rollout.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines across web releases and mobile release channels.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pairing and code review.
  • Shape front-end standards and ways of working through the UI Chapter.
  • Take part in incident response, including triage, hotfix, and post-incident review.
  • Champion AI tooling adoption, including custom agents and MCP integrations, across the team.

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • Based in Belfast, with occasional travel to London.
  • Recent production experience with React and strong TypeScript skills, writing clean and maintainable code.
  • Production experience shipping a React Native app on the Expo/EAS toolchain.
  • Comfortable dropping into Xcode or Gradle when the managed workflow isn't enough.
  • Experience with TanStack Query and a lightweight client store such as Zustand.
  • Styling and component composition with Tailwind.
  • OIDC authentication and push notifications via FCM/APNs.

Desirable / Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Nx or a comparable monorepo tool (Turborepo, pnpm workspaces).
  • Headless CMS experience, content modelling and block-driven rendering (Contentful a plus).
  • Fluent with Claude Code and experience authoring MCP servers or custom agents.

Why Apply?

  • £60,000 to £75,000, depending on experience.
  • Fully remote working, UK based.
  • Broad-scope individual contributor role spanning both web and mobile.
  • Genuine autonomy to shape architecture and technical direction.
  • Work with a modern, well-invested stack including App Router, React Native, and an Nx monorepo.
  • Mentor and influence engineers across the wider team.
  • Join a business that genuinely promotes from within.
  • Exclusive role, only available through Ocho People.

How to prepare for a job interview at Ocho

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Ocho uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
