Role Overview: As a Junior Java Software Engineer, you'll help develop high-quality, scalable applications as part of a collaborative engineering team reporting to the Head of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, test and maintain Java-based backend solutions.
- Work with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
- Apply best practices for scalability and security.
- Contribute to discussions on technical designs and estimated effort.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to teammates and clients.
- Take ownership of tasks and proactively solve problems.
- Learn from and share knowledge with the wider team.
- Support integration with AWS services and SQL databases.
What You'll Need:
Essential:
- 5+ years Java experience.
- 2+ years' practical experience with Spring Boot.
- Microservices architecture experience.
- Experience in 3 or more of: TDD, BDD/Cucumber, performance testing (e.g. JMeter), penetration testing/OWASP, Kubernetes/container orchestration.
- Experience designing, creating and calling APIs.
- SQL database experience (e.g. Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB).
- Experience with 3+ AWS services (e.g. EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, Elasticsearch, EKS, CloudWatch, CloudFront).
- Comfortable working in a team with minimal supervision.
Desirable:
- CI/CD pipeline setup and configuration.
- NoSQL/document databases.
- ELK stack, Apache Kafka.
- Spring Security and OAuth2 flows.
- React or React Native.
- Keycloak, Camunda.
- OpenAPI/Swagger, Nginx setup.
