The Role
- You will lead a team of data engineers building and scaling products centred around transaction matching systems.
- Working closely with senior leadership and business stakeholders, you will own the data engineering roadmap, drive automation, and deliver robust, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
- This is a genuinely hands-on role requiring deep technical credibility alongside the leadership capability to build and retain a high-performing team.
What You Will Be Doing
- Leading and developing a team of data engineers focused on transaction matching systems and data engineering products.
- Collaborating with senior leadership to define and execute the data engineering roadmap.
- Identifying and driving automation opportunities across pipelines, operational processes, and reporting workflows.
- Remaining hands-on with coding, code review, and contributing to the design of high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Designing and implementing enterprise-scale data architectures across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Establishing and enforcing data quality standards, testing frameworks, and SLAs across all integrated data sources.
- Managing team capacity, sprint planning, and delivery in an agile environment.
- Contributing to hiring, onboarding, and performance management; developing talent and fostering a collaborative, high-trust culture.
What We Are Looking For
- 8 or more years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a people management or technical lead role.
- Strong hands-on proficiency with SQL across Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or Snowflake.
- Hands-on experience with DBT and Snowflake.
- Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformation applications.
- Experience in regulated financial services environments, particularly payments or reconciliation.
- Strong working knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab or Jenkins and JVM-based microservice architectures.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in a JVM-based language such as Java or Groovy; Python scripting also advantageous.
- Familiarity with Oracle EPM or similar reconciliation platforms.
- Exposure to compliance-driven delivery under regulatory deadlines.
Package: £95,000 to £115,000 base depending on experience, plus benefits.
