About the Company
Our client is a scaling technology business building a cloud-native platform integrated with purpose-built hardware, operating in high-trust, real-world environments where data integrity, reliability, and security are non-negotiable. The platform foundations are in place. 2026 is about scale, robustness, and insight. This hire sits at the centre of that evolution.
The Role
You will be responsible for how data moves from edge devices into the cloud, how it is structured, stored, and governed, and how it ultimately becomes usable insight. Working closely with backend, platform, and firmware engineers, you will ensure the flow from device to cloud is secure, traceable, and performant. The architectural decisions made this year will directly shape long-term platform reliability and product maturity.
If you care about correctness as much as speed, this will resonate.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable data pipelines ingesting data from hardware and edge systems.
- Work with high-volume event-driven data, time series data, and rich metadata.
- Ensure integrity, auditability, and traceability across the full data lifecycle.
- Define data contracts and schemas in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Support analytics, operational insight, and reporting use cases.
- Optimise storage strategy, retention policies, and pipeline performance.
- Monitor and improve production pipeline reliability.
- Contribute to data architecture decisions as the platform matures and scales.
What You'll Need
Essential:
- Commercial experience as a Data Engineer or in a data-focused backend role.
- Strong SQL capability and sound data modelling fundamentals.
- Experience building and operating production-grade data pipelines.
- Cloud exposure across AWS or Azure.
- Understanding of event-driven or streaming architectures.
- Strong focus on data governance, security, and data quality.
- Comfortable collaborating across software and hardware-aligned teams.
- Right to work in the UK.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with IoT or device-generated data.
- Exposure to telemetry, video, or media data.
- Experience in regulated or security-sensitive domains, or familiarity with message queues and streaming platforms.
Why Apply?
- Hybrid working from Belfast, permanent role with long-term platform trajectory.
- Genuine influence over data architecture as the platform scales.
- Real problems worth solving... edge-to-cloud data in high-trust, real-world environments.
- Work across a cross-disciplinary team spanning software, platform, and firmware engineering.
- Join at a pivotal moment... the decisions made in 2026 will define how this platform operates at scale.
