About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our client's finance team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting career within a supportive and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance team with month-end processes and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing purchase and sales invoices
  • Bank reconciliations and cash allocation
  • Preparing and posting journals
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end procedures
  • Reconciling supplier and customer accounts
  • Supporting credit control and accounts payable activities
  • Processing employee expenses
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and filing systems
  • Assisting with VAT returns and other statutory reporting
  • Supporting the Finance Manager with ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Liaising with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve account queries

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years experience in an accounts or finance role
  • A good understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Experience using accounting software (such as Sage, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Desirable

  • AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or a similar accounting qualification
  • Experience with month-end processes
  • Knowledge of VAT procedures
