About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our client's finance team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting career within a supportive and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance team with month-end processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing purchase and sales invoices
- Bank reconciliations and cash allocation
- Preparing and posting journals
- Assisting with month-end and year-end procedures
- Reconciling supplier and customer accounts
- Supporting credit control and accounts payable activities
- Processing employee expenses
- Maintaining accurate financial records and filing systems
- Assisting with VAT returns and other statutory reporting
- Supporting the Finance Manager with ad hoc reporting and analysis
- Liaising with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve account queries
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years experience in an accounts or finance role
- A good understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Experience using accounting software (such as Sage, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable
- AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or a similar accounting qualification
- Experience with month-end processes
- Knowledge of VAT procedures
