Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
Location: Belfast (3 days per week in office)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + bonus
A global financial services organisation is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join its Technology team, working on complex, high-availability trading and market infrastructure platforms.
This role sits within an Agile engineering team and acts as a strong advocate for quality, driving shift-left testing practices, Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD). You will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts and Developers to ensure high-quality software is delivered at the end of every sprint.
The role is automation-focused, with a strong emphasis on API-level testing, CI/CD integration and ownership of quality across the full software development lifecycle.
Role Responsibilities
- Act as the quality advocate within an Agile delivery team
- Drive BDD, TDD and shift-left testing approaches across the team
- Design, build and maintain automated test suites within CI/CD pipelines
- Lead test strategy decisions each sprint, including functional, automation and non-functional testing
- Collaborate with global development, QA and analysis teams
- Mentor and coach engineers to improve quality standards and practices
- Promote quality-first engineering practices including unit testing and code reviews
- Own testing outcomes for key features through to delivery
- Communicate progress, risks and blockers clearly to stakeholders
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years\’ experience as a senior QA automation engineer
- Strong experience with UI and API automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or similar
- Proficiency in Java, JavaScript or similar scripting languages
- Experience designing and maintaining end-to-end automated test frameworks
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab or TeamCity
- Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber
- Strong understanding of non‑functional testing including performance, load and stress testing
- Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills
Desirable experience includes financial or trading platforms, FIX protocol automation, AWS, microservices, serverless architectures and relevant testing certifications.
