Ocho is working with a fast-growing, security-focused technology scaleup building advanced hardware and cloud software used by high-profile organisations across security, services and public safety. They are now hiring a Senior Engineer in Test to take ownership of testing strategy and execution across the entire platform. This is not a box-ticking QA role. It is a senior engineering position where quality is designed in from day one, not checked at the end. You will be a hands-on technical leader, driving automated testing, influencing engineering practices, and helping embed a true shift-left quality culture across the organisation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Test strategy and ownership
- Own and evolve the automated testing strategy across unit, integration, system and end-to-end testing.
- Set and maintain the quality bar for a complex, distributed platform.
- Identify gaps and prioritise improvements based on risk and impact.
- Champion best practices and embed quality thinking across engineering teams.
- Design, build and maintain robust automated testing frameworks.
- Extend and improve an existing TypeScript, Playwright-based end-to-end test suite.
- Build and maintain integration and API tests for Java Spring microservices.
- Ensure tests are fast, reliable and CI-friendly, using metrics and data to guide improvements.
- Validate service-to-service interactions, async workflows and event-driven behaviour.
- Ensure testing approaches scale as the platform grows globally.
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years’ experience in test engineering or quality-focused engineering roles.
- Strong engineering background with hands-on, production-quality test code.
- Experience testing Java Spring applications and microservice architectures.
- Hands-on experience with end-to-end testing frameworks, ideally Playwright.
- Experience testing APIs, integrations and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native environments.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
