We're partnering with a financial services technology team in Belfast who need an experienced Production Support / Operations Engineer to cover an upcoming maternity leave. This is a hands-on operational role focused on keeping critical customer-facing systems stable, responding to incidents, and working closely with engineering teams when issues arise.
This is an initial 6-9 month contract, with a strong likelihood of converting to a permanent role following the maternity cover period, subject to performance and team fit.
The Role
- You'll be responsible for monitoring live environments, responding to alerts, triaging issues, and applying recovery procedures using established runbooks.
- You'll investigate incidents, determine root cause where possible, and escalate to the appropriate engineering teams when issues require deeper technical fixes.
- You'll also be responsible for documenting incidents and timelines for post-incident reviews, supporting continuous improvement in system stability and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor production and non-production environments and respond to system alerts.
- Triage and remediate application and system issues using established procedures.
- Escalate incidents appropriately and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
- Support recovery activities during service disruptions.
- Document incidents and contribute to post-incident reviews.
- Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to resolve ongoing issues.
What We're Looking For
- Commercial experience in Production Support, Application Support, NOC or Operations Engineering roles.
- Strong Linux or Unix skills with confidence working in live environments.
- Experience using monitoring and logging tools (such as Splunk, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog or similar).
- Comfortable working in high-pressure situations and following structured incident processes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical teams.
- Cloud platform exposure (AWS, GCP or Azure) is beneficial but not essential.
