Set the technical direction for a brand new platform at a global security leader.
About the Company:
Our client is a global leader in identity, payments and data security, trusted by governments, banks and enterprises around the world. With decades of expertise in public key infrastructure, digital identity and cryptographic security, it protects the people, devices and transactions modern business runs on. It is now bringing that expertise to AI, building a trusted foundation for agent identity, authority, execution and assurance, and is growing a team in Northern Ireland to deliver it.
The Role:
As Staff Software Engineer you'll provide technical leadership across teams while staying deeply hands-on. You'll own complex, ambiguous problems that span services and build tracks, and make sure implementation choices stay coherent with the platform's reference architecture and long-term strategy. You'll shape designs, prototype high-risk capabilities, resolve systemic issues and create reusable patterns that speed up delivery across multiple teams. You'll work closely with the Platform Architect and engineering leadership, and represent engineering in customer, partner and standards discussions. It suits an engineer who leads through influence and expertise rather than title.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the technical direction and delivery of broad initiatives spanning multiple teams, services or platform layers.
- Design and build critical capabilities in identity, delegated authority, policy enforcement, trustworthy execution and evidence.
- Partner with the Platform Architect and engineering leaders to evolve reference designs, interfaces and engineering standards.
- Prototype uncertain or high-risk approaches and turn the findings into scalable production designs.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, surfacing systemic security, reliability and scalability risks.
- Build reusable frameworks, libraries and reference implementations that raise consistency across teams.
- Diagnose complex production and performance issues and lead cross-team fixes.
- Mentor engineers and strengthen technical decision-making through coaching, design feedback and technical forums.
- Represent engineering in strategic customer, partner and standards discussions.
What You'll Need:
Essential:
- 10+ years' professional software development experience building and running complex distributed or security-sensitive systems.
- Expertise in one or more modern programming languages.
- Strong cloud-native system design, API contract and data integrity skills, plus production operations experience.
- A proven track record of leading large technical initiatives across teams without relying on positional authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining complex trade-offs and writing lasting technical documentation.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable / Nice to Have:
- Deep experience in identity, key management, PKI, cryptography, HSM-backed services, workload identity or transparency logs.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS and agentic AI ecosystems such as MCP, agent-to-agent interactions or provenance standards like C2PA.
- Open-source, patent, standards-body or recognised technical community contributions.
Why Apply?
- Competitive salary plus bonus.
- Hybrid working from Belfast.
- Generous annual leave.
- Comprehensive benefits package, details on request.
- Shape the technical foundations of a new platform from the start.
- Real influence: a senior technical voice across teams, customers and standards bodies.
- Work on a genuinely new problem space with the backing of a global security leader.
