Purpose of the Role
The Product Developer – Upholstery will support the development of new upholstered products from concept through to production. Reporting to the Product Development Manager and working closely with the design team (Studio Ocee), and our international design studio partners, you’ll ensure projects are delivered on time, to specification, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with international design studios to translate creative concepts into technically and commercially feasible upholstered products.
- Develop prototypes, evaluate comfort and ergonomics, and resolve construction challenges.
- Source and test upholstery materials, foams, and finishes in line with design intent and sustainability goals.
- Produce and maintain detailed product specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to manage sampling and production.
- Provide technical expertise to ensure cost-effective and scalable solutions.
- Support the evolution and improvement of existing upholstery and product ranges.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in upholstery & Pattern cutting (experience in commercial furniture desirable).
- Strong knowledge of upholstery construction, foams, textiles, and frames.
- Experience collaborating with external design studios or international partners would be beneficial.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
- Strong communication and organisational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines.
- Technical drawing understanding /CAD skills (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) optional.
