Content Development & Instructional Design

  • Develop and define SMART learning objectives in collaboration with nominated stakeholders to fulfil customer needs.
  • Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Kirkpatrick’s Model) to ensure effective knowledge and skills retention.
  • Design and develop maritime training courses in collaboration with SMEs, including STCW-aligned programmes, safety training and compliance modules.
  • Create interactive e-learning modules, instructor-led training (ILT) materials, and blended learning programmes.
  • Develop multimedia-rich training using videos, animations and interactive simulations.
  • Develop assessment methodologies and assessment material to assure achievement of learning objectives.

Marine Industry-Specific Training Development

  • Ensure course content aligns with IMO, STCW, ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, and OCIMF (SIRE 2.0) requirements.
  • Design safety-critical training, including emergency response, risk assessment, human factors, and navigational safety.
  • Develop training for specific vessel types, including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, and offshore support vessels.
  • Work with marine simulators to enhance experiential learning.

E-Learning & Digital Learning Solutions

  • Develop SCORM/xAPI-compliant e-learning courses for integration with Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Utilize authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) to create interactive content.
  • Work with AI-driven training technologies to create immersive learning experiences for seafarers.
  • Ensure digital content is mobile-friendly and accessible for onboard and remote learning.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with V. Group marine subject matter experts (SMEs) and training institutions.
  • Collaborate with Ship Management offices, Crewing teams, HSSEQ / Compliance teams to tailor training to operational needs.

Assessment & Learning Analytics

  • Develop knowledge assessments, competency-based evaluations, and scenario-based exercises.
  • Analyse learner performance data to improve content effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Use learning analytics to measure training impact and recommend improvements.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

  • Review the quality of training content delivered in V. Ships Training centres, to ensure it meets learning process good practice, and meets STCW, Industry or any other required standards.
  • Review the quality of LMS training (eLearning, videos, guides) to ensure the content and learning process is fit for purpose and meeting standards.
  • Observe face-to-face and virtual classroom training delivery to ensure training is delivered to a high standard consistently and course objectives are met.
  • Maintain and update training materials to reflect changing maritime laws and best practices.
  • Implement gamification and microlearning techniques to enhance engagement.

Qualifications

  • Learning design and development experience, creating and fulfilling SMART learning objectives using the ADDIE methodology.
  • Excellent project management and collaboration skills.
  • Strong storytelling, instructional writing, and curriculum development skills.
  • Experience in training content development, instructional design, or e-learning.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for learning and development.
  • Adaptive towards technology.
  • Strong ability to communicate.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural dynamic environment.
  • Ability to translate complex operations into engaging learning experiences.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of Maritime legislation, regulation and Industry standards.
  • Sailing experience as Master or Chief Engineer.
  • Proficiency in e-learning development tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
  • Experience working with maritime LMS platforms (e.g. Ocean Learning Platform).
