Navigating the position: As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive experience of maritime training, regulation and vessel operations your key responsibilities will be monitoring industry regulation and best practices, writing updates and new content for our digital learning and assessment products. As an SME you will be an authority on subjects relating to the safe operation and management of vessels from a professional and regulatory viewpoint. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the company to define and prioritize product initiatives, ensuring that we deliver innovative, customer‑centric solutions that drive both customer satisfaction and financial results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track regulatory updates to identify content changes and recommend new content.
- Track industry trends, reports and events to identify content changes and recommend new content.
- Contribute to maintenance of the Impact Report; communicate requirements to Product and Compliance Managers for timely roadmap scheduling.
- Author learning content in collaboration with other SMEs, Product Managers, Instructional Designers, development teams and other stakeholders.
- Update existing learning & assessment content.
- Participate in and give feedback on content reviews to ensure accuracy and sector specific relevance.
- Engage with clients, internal teams and end users to gather and assess feedback on cargo and nautical content.
- Use Quality Assurance processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Advise on queries regarding learning and assessment compliance, regulations and content.
- Contribute to upgrading colleagues’ knowledge.
- Contribute to SME groups and Go To Market activities.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
- Qualified at least to Chief Officer (II/2)/ 2nd Engineer (III/2) – Unlimited (Essential) OR Degree in Maritime Studies / Marine Engineering / Nautical Science / Marine Transportation or a related field.
- Experienced Maritime officer from Deck/ Engineering field OR Experienced Maritime Professional with 5 years in Regulatory / Operational Ship Management role (Essential).
- Experience in a maritime educational role/ maritime professional shore role/ ship management (Maritime Educational Training (Higher Education/ Fleet-On-The-Job), P&I, Law, Consultancy, Superintendence, HSEQ, Regulatory or equivalent)) (Preferred).
- Professional English proficiency in writing, text review, critical application of legislation and report writing. (Essential).
- Expert knowledge of maritime regulatory and training requirements for vessel operations and broad range of ship types (Essential).
- Delivery of mentoring, assessment and training of maritime professionals (Essential).
- Excellent communication skills to enable explanation of complex topics in a clear concise manner (Essential).
- Proven ability to work remotely and as part of a team. (Essential).
- Ability to structure and write clear and accurate learning content.
- Strong intercultural awareness.
- IT Literacy with Microsoft suite and experience with wide range of software / digital platforms (Essential).
- Audit experience (ISM or ISO Standards) (Preferred).
