Role Description The Marine Environmental Consultant will be a full-time, on-site team member based in Dunbar. This role involves conducting marine environmental assessments, supporting marine mammal mitigation projects, and providing technical advice to clients across a broad range of marine industries. Day-to-day activities include preparing and reviewing reports, contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), ensuring environmental compliance on projects, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The consultant will analyze environmental data, participate in project planning and risk assessments, and support the development of mitigation strategies aligned with OSC’s standards and regulatory requirements. The role also includes client communication, participation in fieldwork where required, and contributing to research and development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Environmental Science and marine ecology, with the ability to apply scientific principles to practical consulting projects;
- Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Consulting, including project scoping, data analysis, and preparation of technical documentation;
- Proficiency in Report Writing and communicating complex environmental information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences;
- Knowledge of logistics, Environmental Compliance, relevant marine regulations, and industry standards, with experience supporting clients in meeting regulatory obligations;
- Degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification is advantageous;
- Experience working in marine or coastal environments, ideally with exposure to marine mammal mitigation or offshore industries;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
- Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work on-site and collaborate with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders;
- Competence with relevant software tools (e.g., GIS, data analysis packages) and willingness to engage in ongoing professional development;
- Good ethics, morals, and principles essential.
