The Job
Some engineering leadership jobs are about managing people. This one is about improving how engineering gets done. You’ll lead a team building and evolving enterprise data platforms that sit at the heart of a highly regulated financial environment. You’ll stay close to the technology, helping engineers solve difficult problems, raising engineering standards and influencing technical direction without becoming a hands-off manager. You’ll work across cloud and on-premise environments, helping shape data platforms that process large volumes of business-critical information using technologies including Snowflake, Databricks, SQL and Python.
What makes this different is the breadth of the work. You’ll influence architecture, mentor engineers, introduce better engineering practices and help teams make better technical decisions. AI is becoming part of the engineering toolkit here too, so you’ll have the freedom to introduce tools and approaches that genuinely improve software delivery rather than simply talking about them. If you’ve enjoyed building engineering teams, improving technical standards and solving complex platform problems, you’ll have plenty of room to make an impact here.
You’ll get the chance to shape engineering practices rather than simply inherit them. A broad technical remit covering engineering leadership, architecture and modern enterprise data platforms. The opportunity to work with experienced engineers on systems that underpin a globally recognised financial institution.
You’ll probably have
- A strong software engineering background before moving into technical leadership.
- Experience building enterprise data platforms using technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, SQL and Python.
- The ability to mentor engineers, improve technical standards and lead engineering decisions across multiple teams.
- Experience with lakehouse architecture, enterprise data architecture or AI-assisted software engineering would fit well, but we’re far more interested in how you’ve applied these technologies than simply seeing them listed on a CV.
Please note: This is a hybrid London-based position requiring three days per week in the office. Unfortunately, sponsorship isn’t available, so you’ll need to have the right to work in the UK.
