The Role
You’ll take ownership of a varied database estate that supports low-latency, business-critical financial technology.
This is a hands-on DBA role where your work will directly affect the reliability, performance and resilience of production systems. You’ll support engineering and operations teams who rely on well-managed databases to keep regulated technology products running smoothly.
You’ll work across mature relational database tooling, while also getting exposure to newer and more specialist technologies including QuestDB, Dolt, Redis and Elasticsearch.
You’ll be the person people come to when database performance, availability, access, backups, schema changes or query behaviour needs proper thought. Some days you’ll be tuning MySQL.
Other days you’ll be helping developers make safer database changes, improving observability in Grafana, or testing restore procedures so recovery plans are more than just documentation.
The environment is fast-moving, technical and collaborative. You’ll have autonomy, but you won’t be left on an island.
What makes you a great fit:
- You’ve worked as a DBA, or in a database-focused infrastructure or engineering role, in a production environment.
- You have strong MySQL experience, including installation, configuration, replication, performance tuning and user management.
- You’re comfortable with PostgreSQL concepts such as query planning, indexing, roles and connection management.
- You understand backup and restore strategies, including point-in-time recovery.
- You can write and optimise complex SQL for operational reporting, dashboards and troubleshooting.
- You’re comfortable working in Linux and using command-line tooling.
- You can explain database concepts clearly to developers, operations teams and non-specialist colleagues.
Nice to have:
- Experience with QuestDB, or an interest in high-performance time-series workloads.
- Experience with Grafana or similar observability tools.
- Exposure to Redis, Elasticsearch or version-controlled database systems such as Dolt.
- Experience in a regulated financial services or compliance-driven environment.
The broader technical environment includes: MySQL, PostgreSQL, QuestDB, Dolt, Redis, Elasticsearch, Linux, Grafana, monitoring and alerting tooling.
