Contract Animal Care Trainee

The incumbent will assist in the preparation, daily operations, husbandry works, maintenance and improvement of Aquarium exhibits (Rainforest, Sea Jelly & Shark Mystique) covering species such as freshwater fish, reptiles, birds, land mammals, sharks and sea jelly, etc. He/She will also participate in or provide support for conservation and research projects as assigned by their supervisor.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing marine mammals with the best of care and ensuring their mental and physical well‑being. He/She will assist trainers and supervisors with animal health and care, animal feeding, show setup, facility hygiene, repair and maintenance. Additionally, he/she will learn basic training techniques by assisting in the training of all marine mammals for husbandry, show, and education behaviours, as well as related issues concerning the keeping of marine mammals. He/she will also support conservation and research projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Matriculated or above in Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, fish science or related disciplines
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; Putonghua speaking is preferable
  • A competent swimmer; Qualified Diving Master / Diving Instructor is an added advantage
  • Computer literacy in MS Office is an added advantage
  • Willing to work on shifts, including weekends and public holidays
