PROJECT MANAGER (MATERNITY COVER – 12 MONTHS- JULY 2026-JULY 2027) in Plymouth

We are seeking an experienced and capable Project Manager with a strong focus on oceanographic and ecological projects to support the delivery of commercial marine and offshore projects. Reporting to the Head of Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing day‑to‑day project activities, leading on client‑facing communications, managing project‑level invoicing and cost tracking, and supporting on the planning and coordinating marine surveys and equipment.

This role is suited to an individual with previous experience managing oceanographic and/or ecological marine projects within a commercial environment, who is looking to apply their technical understanding of marine data acquisition and offshore operations in a structured and delivery‑focused organisation.

• Collaborate with other Project Managers to develop project plans, schedules, update costs, and ensure projects remain aligned to the client’s requirements and within budget.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including Project Execution Plans, project briefs, and other OEL specific documentation such as project progress and cost tracking.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, addressing their inquiries or concerns and remaining reactive to any communications.
• Input to and assist in writing of tenders and quotes.
• Technical and quality review of reporting outputs and data deliverables to ensure client requirements are being met.
• Assist with staff resourcing, coordination and scheduling of surveys, supporting the operations team as required.
• Overseeing and guiding the work of junior ecologists and consultants with respect to specific project requirements as communicated by the client.
• Opportunity to be involved in nearshore and offshore surveys (depending on appetite and qualifications).

You will be required to work closely with the Technical Leads and senior ecologists / consultants in providing consultancy advice to the Company’s clients as well as assisting in developing new business opportunities. You will also be encouraged to develop research / business opportunities and collaborations with other businesses and research institutes in the UK and internationally where appropriate.

• Previous experience in project management or related roles within the industry.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a project environment.
• Experience managing budgets, cost tracking and/or invoicing.
• A BSc degree in marine biology (or similar marine related discipline).
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 applications.
• Experience of coastal and offshore surveys (e.g. benthic, hydrographic, oceanographic, intertidal).
• Desirable: Experience in physical and biogeochemical met‑ocean data and/or surveys for coastal processes.
• Desirable: Familiarity with geospatial data management and/or GIS mapping.
