We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Fellow or Researcher to join the Iron and Manganese Impacts on the Future of Southern Ocean Ecosystems (IronMan) project, a NERC-funded Antarctic research programme. The project is focused on unravelling how the supply, biogeochemical cycling and availability of iron and manganese affects net primary productivity and biomass of Southern Ocean ecosystems.

About The Role

Based at the University of Plymouth, you will become a member of a multidisciplinary team working closely with the principal investigators, Prof Ussher and Dr Milne, and with an extensive network of national and international collaborators. Project partners include researchers at the Universities of Liverpool, Exeter, Southampton, East Anglia, Tasmania (Australia) and Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (USA).

You will play a key role in delivering the project's scientific objectives through:

  • the analysis of oceanographic samples,
  • interpretation and synthesis of multidisciplinary datasets,
  • dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations,
  • archiving of data in appropriate national repositories.

Due to the nature of the role, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate working from home. The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

We Are Seeking a Researcher Who Has:

  • A first degree in marine science or chemistry subject with a PhD in marine biogeochemistry.
  • Demonstrable experience in laboratory-based research, including the application of good laboratory practices and the use of analytical techniques.
  • The ability to integrate multidisciplinary datasets across different spatial and temporal scales.
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of research publication.

The role offers training in specific trace clean handling and analysis techniques within a highly collaborative research environment.
